Рассказывают на форуме про северо-североамериканский английский:

This has turned these varieties actual phonologies into an utter mess that differs significantly from what they teach EFL speakers about NAE phonology. Vowel nasalization? That actually matters now, as in very many cases the [n] that was once there is no longer articulated except when one speaks carefully. Vowel length? Well, most of these varieties lost historical English vowel length... but it actually matters again, as in those varieties that did, said length is now a cheshirized cue as to the nature of what was elided in many cases. Consonant length? All English varieties lost this centuries ago, except along morpheme boundaries... but it also matters again, as it lets you know in many cases that a /d/ had been lost before another consonant, as well as being the result of a good few other consonant cluster reductions. Oh, and you now get these funny syllables with these weird pitch contours, usually falling from a higher pitch — these are a cue that two syllables, one which had phonemic stress, got crammed together into one syllable at some point. That cramming has also resulted in quite a varied array of strange secondary diphthongs too.

Oh, but you will never be taught any of this in school — it is up to you to figure out on your own that things like [ˈsɪ̂i̯] mean city, that things like [ˈɫɪ̂ːɰ] (and no, not [ˈɫɪːɰ]) mean little, that things like [ˈɛ̃̂ːĩ̯] mean any, that things like [ə̃ː] after another word and [ˈgɐ̃̂ː] mean going to, that things like [ˈgɑ̃̂ɐ̯̃] mean got to, what someone is ordering when they order [ˈvɑːkːə(ː)], and so on.

Oh, and to make your life even more fun, in some varieties this applies productively across word boundaries, with words taking different forms depending on just what follows them and even modifying, through gemination, following words!

Вот так появляются диалекты :) Самое интересное выделил.
